Max Tools

Max makes nailers and staplers. The range splits into two air systems: standard pressure, the same as everything else on site, and Max’s own high-pressure system, which is the reason most people go looking for the brand in the first place. Max Co. is Japanese. On this page you’ll find our reviews and buying guides for the full Max range.

Why Tradies Choose Max

Standard pneumatic nailers run at roughly 90 to 120 psi. Max high-pressure tools run at about 330 psi. More pressure means the same driving force comes out of a smaller cylinder, so the tool can be built lighter and more compact without giving up power. A high-pressure framer is smaller in the hand than a standard-pressure gun driving the same nail. Over a full day of framing or decking, that difference in weight is the thing people comment on.

Max says it built the first high-pressure nailer, and the high-pressure line is still the part of the range with no close equivalent from the big American brands.

The catch is that high pressure is a separate air system. The tools need a Max high-pressure compressor and hose rated for it. A standard site compressor will not run them, though Max’s own compressors have both high-pressure and regular outlets so you can run mixed gear off one unit. Going high-pressure is a decision about your whole setup, not a single tool purchase. If you already run standard-pressure gear and you only need one gun, buy the standard-pressure Max or buy another brand.

There is more to the company than nailers. Max also builds rebar tying tools for concrete work, and its office staplers are a much bigger part of the business in Japan than anything sold here. The naming follows a pattern once you know it: SuperFramer, SuperRoofer, SuperSider and SuperFinisher are all Max trademarks, and the model prefix tells you the air system, with HN for high pressure.
