The orange coating does two jobs. It lowers friction, so the bit runs cooler. And it stops resin and pitch sticking to the body. Pitch build-up is what kills most bits before the carbide is worn out, because a gummed-up bit drags, heats up and burns the timber. A coated bit stays cleaner and needs less scrubbing. The carbide is brazed to the body rather than glued, so it holds under heat. The bodies use an anti-kickback shape, meaning there is extra steel behind each cutting edge to limit how far the bit can bite in one pass. That matters most with hand-held routing and with big raised panel bits.
